In the Shadow of Chance

The original 2001 version of this book is a 400 page book based on the author’s experiences as a clinical psychologist working with problem gamblers in the Veterans Administration. First posted in its entirety to a web site in 2000, the book was published by ExGambler Services and is now available at cost ($13.00) from the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling. An order form is available. The version presented on this site is a version revised in 2007 with minor changes from the original. This book was written as fictionalized personal experience, and I attempted to make it as readable as possible for my primary audience: pathological and problem gamblers who wish to abstain and to build meaningful lives free of gambling. It is also written with the families and friends of gamblers in mind. The book may  be of interest to mental health professionals, politicians, policy makers, gambling industry personnel, and the concerned general reader. The revised version is not yet available in print.

Scenes in the Life of a Gamotherapist

This is a ridiculous play in ten acts that makes fun of therapists, gambler clients, and the world in general. Its accuracy, however, is not in dispute.

Act I: Off to a Bad Start
Act II: Whose Fault Is It?
Act III: That Spirituality Thing
Act IV: Defects? What Defects?
Act V: You Gotta Have Feelings
Act VI: Hard Choices
Act VII: Honest, Doc
Act VIII: Not So Humble People
Act IX: Re-doing History
Act X: Living with Gamblers Anonymous
